1963 Volvo 544

*3 years in the making*

All of the work leading up to this point, Click Here

New glass: this may seem extreme, but original glass being reinstalled looks terrible on such a high level restoration

Door panels are done

Reconditioned, original parts (like these) are sometimes the only options. We have a huge (HUGE) supply of parts salvaged from the past  30 years. It may seem silly to keep all of this stuff, but it is great to be able to just go up to the warehouse and get that perfect finishing-touch part that is not available elsewhere...for any money...

(This is more of the true color, the other pictures make it too light)

The seats are done. New foam pads for both the seat bottom and the seat back. The covering is an exact replica of the original seat material.

Seat bottom

Reconditioned, original sill plates-hard to find in any condition

Rear vent window latch: a very difficult item to re-chrome, so an excellent used one was located

Sunvisors: Rebuilt (stuffed and covered) by a local subcontractor, who had also installed the headliner

Perfect fit and finish of these interior details

Interior light: new assembly (unit, lens, chrome, switch)

New glove box installed

Squirter bottle: all new parts

Door panel/door pillar/windlace: all a perfect fit!

Some underneath work:

10/01/08: Rebuilt drive shaft in primer, and ready for paint.

The final step in preserving the body is to undercoat the fender wells with a modern urethane (body shutz).

Undercoater prevents moisture and contaminants from entering the vulnerable seams. This modern product is a great improvement over the original undercoater which loosens over time and inevitably promotes corrosion.

Undercoating the inner rear fenders: done

10/08/08: Driveshaft painted, assembled, and ready for installation

Boss on the hub cap

Re-plated seat belt hardware

Stainless steel exhaust system being installed

10/08/08: Custom fabrication  of exhaust hanger: the hanger stock system on this car was humble. Here we've taken an opportunity to make an improvement

(another view of the same)

10/21/08:  This excellent, machine thread mirror base plate should be supplied WITH this mirror, instead of sheet metal screws-which will pull out of metal after installation.

Custom fabrication will keep this new mirror from "working" on the door panels.

10/22/08: Grab handles-new. Not original parts...but an improvement

Ashtray: reconditioned, a nice color contrast with the tan interior.

Perfectly fitting reproduction interior. Exactly reproduced fabric.

Modern wipers for practical, daily use

The perfect mirror: the original mirrors clipped to the door edge-a terrible situation. They ruined the paint, fell off, and were difficult to adjust. These replacements are a vintage accessory item available for 60's vintage sports cares. This product was used on these cars when the owner wanted a good mirror, but was unfortunately not a dealer option.
